The book I chose for my reportage is “War and Peace”, written by Lev (Leo) Nikolaevich Tolstoy. The book is volume 1 and follows many characters during a time when the brink of war in Russia is at hand. The book focuses on five aristocratic families and the problems they all face. Some face the need to fight in war, while others face ideas about what is right and what is wrong. The book opens during a party in St. Petersburg in 1805, hosted by one of the main characters, Anna Pavlovna Scherer. During this time we talk about the threat Napoleon has on Russia. Anne even says: “Well, prince, so Genoa and Lucca are now just family possessions of the Buonapartes. But I warn you, if you don't tell me that this means war, if you still try to defend the infamies and horrors perpetrated by that Antichrist - I really believe he is the Antichrist - I will have nothing more to do with you. This shows that even in times of peace, such as when you are at a party, somehow there is still war. Most of the discussions focus on the idea of war and its prospects. However, Anna also raises questions, such as talking about how much she loves Vasili's children, except her son Anatole. Vasili asks Anna to arrange a meeting between his son Anatole and Mary Bolkonskaya, who is the daughter of Prince Bolkonski. Bolkonski is a wealthy retired military commander. Many others arrive at the party such as Helene Kuragina, Lise, Pierre, Hippolyte Kuragin and Andre Bollonski. Liza is Bolkonski's daughter-in-law and is married to his son, Andrew. Pierre is the son of Count Bezukhov. Hippolyte Kuragin is Helene's brother. When the party is over, Pierre goes to meet Andrew at his house. There they discuss the idea of peace. Pierre believes in the possibility of peace, b...... middle of paper ......ulie also informs Mary of Pierre's legacy. Mary responds, telling Julie to remember patience and forgiveness. Mary's brother Andrew arrives in Bald Hills with his wife Lise. Andrew tells Mary that he will soon be leaving for war. Nicholas then sends his son to war. He says goodbye to his family and leaves. I love these types of books, so I would definitely tell friends to read it. This book makes me want to read the other volumes because I want to know what happens. There is drama, romance and war all in one book. The book did a great job of keeping my interest, unlike some of the travel stories I've read. I felt that all the concepts in the book were still relevant today. We all seek peace, but peace is almost impossible to find even in times of peace. There is not only war with weapons and armies, but also war of the heart.
