In particular examines the prose distances of the intimate, personal, social and public distances that have been established. What do we do when a person violates them? Do we allow it or do we react negatively? This theory tells us how we should react to the feelings we have towards the person in question. Our reading provides examples where sometimes the theory worked and sometimes it didn't. These failures were exemplified by extenuating circumstances that led the recipient to see the person differently than theory might suggest.
