The body modification trend, including tattoos, piercings or plastic surgery, has become very popular in our society today. The growing demand for any type of body modification makes me really curious as to why people change their physical appearance temporarily or permanently. From what I already know, celebrities and idols get tattoos or undergo plastic surgery to appear a certain way to the general public. They are seen as more attractive in the eyes of the public and create a trend of how men and women should appear in society. Dramas and shows sometimes depict a person considered below average as a victim of bullying. This person will try in every way to appeal to society and gain respect from society. My research question is the following: do people who undergo body modifications (tattoos, piercings, plastic surgery, etc.) to change their physical appearance suffer from bullying or low self-esteem in the past?
