It's the same with everyone, no matter who they are or how poor they are. He doesn't demand money from the poor but instead lets them repay them over time with everything they have. He also goes to defend a black man, Tom Robinson, even though he knows it will draw the scorn of the town and his family. In the novel To Kill a Mocking Bird by Harper Lee, Atticus Finch is courageous, patient, and understanding. Atticus Finch is a courageous person because no matter what people tell him, he will do what he feels and knows is right. After Tom Robinson, the man Bob Ewell accused of raping his daughter Mayella, is arrested and placed in the Macomb County Jail, Atticus goes to prison to protect him from a mob. He doesn't show his fear when his children burst into the crowd, rather he keeps calm and sends them home. Luckily they refuse and Scout ends up stopping them from talking to the "leader".
