Casey SilvaMr.CrossonCollege CompositionMarch 2104Stereotypes in Disney FilmsDisney is a company that almost everyone has seen, heard of, or been to. Over the years that Disney has been making movies, some people have said that Disney shows stereotypes through their movies. While some people don't notice these stereotypical images, some people do notice them and get very offended. Disney has existed since the early 1920s, when "Walt signed a contract with MJ Winkler to produce a series of Alice plays: this date is considered the beginning of the Disney company initially known as The Disney Brothers Studio" (Wikipedia 3 ). In the past, Disney has made many different claims about stereotypes, but nothing has actually been done to fix the problems. Despite claims that Disney invents perfect role models for children, Disney actually creates their characters based on stereotypes. Walt Disney, the founder of Disney, was born on December 5, 1901. He founded Disney in January 1920. As a child he moved around a lot with his family for work reasons. Disney's most famous cartoon was Mickey Mouse and the Mickey Mouse collection was created in the late 1920s and Walt voiced Mickey Mouse until 1947. Some would say this is the most successful part of the Disney franchise. (Wikipedia 2) Some of you may be wondering what stereotypes are. According to Dictionary.com, stereotype is “a simplified and standardized conception or image, endowed with a special meaning and held in common by members of a group” (dictionary 1). Stereotypes give some people false expectations. These expectations create anger among groups and although Disney does not take blame for this, they are part of the... center of the paper......and argues that Disney invents perfect role models for children, the Disney actually creates their characters based on stereotypes. To conclude, this is one of the ways Disney can insert slightly distorted roles and characters into their films without the general population noticing. Works Cited Snow Whitey.
