Home Security Systems: Effective Solutions for Home Security against Increase in Burglary IncidentsName ()Institution ()Home Security Systems: effective home security solutions against the increase in burglary incidentsIntroductionThe Federal Bureau Investigation-FBI (2012) highlights that burglary incidents have increased by 7% in the last ten years, recording a high of 2,159,878 incidents. In addition to the loss of valuable possessions, home burglaries often result in physical assaults, increased incidents of rape, and immense psychological trauma. The increase in incidents highlights that the impact of the effects of burglaries is high, hence the need for people to protect their homes from burglaries. This makes burglary the most pertinent home security issue. In response to the increase in burglaries, most people have focused on installing alarm systems, with the expectation that they will deter over 85% of burglary attempts as statistically justified. However, as Capel (2009) points out, the persistent and growing number of burglaries shows the ineffectiveness of a burglar alarm system as a stand-alone home security system. Ideally, emphasize that people should never use the alarm system as their sole home security system to ward off burglars. The rule of the thief's modus operandi should apply. This involves evaluating “the things he (the thief) looks for, how he gets in, and what he does when he is inside” (Capel, 2009, p. 2). Indeed, based on this rule, as discussed in this essay, Capel shows that an effective home security system that thwarts burglars should include a combination of security approaches, mainly a burglar alarm system, sealed access points and of value hidden inside the house.
