The supernatural is undoubtedly one of the most important things that fuels Macbeth's uncontrolled ambition throughout the play. In fact, what started his journey into madness was his conversation with the three witches and Banquo in Act 1, Scene 3. The witches said "Hello all, Macbeth, that'll be king henceforth!" , What if he had ' Had he not met or listened to the witches, his fate could have been avoided altogether. Banquo on the contrary did not listen to the witches, and if Macbeth had done the same neither of them would have died. Of course, Macbeth's downfall cannot be blamed entirely on witches or the supernatural in general. The supernatural wouldn't have affected him if he hadn't been too proud and naive from the start. This wasn't the only case where witches came into play. Later in Act 4, Scene 1 Macbeth actually hunts down the witches to confront them about their apparitions, and this only leads to his death.
