In the article “Socrates” on historia.com, Socrates is described: “His father Sophroniscus was a stonemason and his mother, Phenarete, was a midwife. As a young man he showed an appetite for learning.” Socrates received a basic Greek education and learned his father's skills at an early age. He became a sculptor like his father and then a philosopher, who actually just thought instead of teaching. Socrates denied any kind of payment for teaching children and became very poor. Although his non-wealth was only seen through the eyes of society, not through his followers. Socrates, however, began what I assume was simply walking around Athens and teaching the young men about life, laws, and true discipline. Socrates came from very little and lived on very little. Many times he was judged by the upper class for what he believed and what he thought. Socrates never considered it offensive, yes, he might have realized it was, but he never reacted aggressively. He was much more interested in the intellectual education of young Athenian minds. Coming from an average or below average background Socrates proved that where you come from does not make you who you are
