ThailandIntroductionA. Thailand is located in Southeast Asia on the Indochina Peninsula. The country occupies approximately 198,117 square miles and is bordered by Burma, Laos, Cambodia, and Malaysia. Some famous rivers that flow through Thailand are the Chao Phraya River and the Mekong River. The estimated population is approximately 67,448,120, of which 75% are Thai, 14% Chinese and 11% classified under "other". Thailand is governed by a constitutional monarchy led by King Rama IX. It joined the United Nations in 1946 after World War II. Thailand's population has increased by 6.2% since 2010 and is experiencing mild population growth. Demographics (a.) Thailand's birth rate has steadily declined over the years. In 2000 the birth rate was 16.86 (births per 1000 inhabitants). Today, however, the birth rate is 12.66. (b.) The mortality rate in Thailand is 7.47 (deaths per 1000 inhabitants). This means that because the death rate is lower than the birth rate, Thailand averages twice as many births as deaths. (c.)
