Topic > Analysis of the Pedagogy of the Oppressed by Paulo Freire

This writing delves into how students do not receive the education they truly deserve, but are instead given mindless pumpkins into which teachers can insert their own ideas. Freire says, “But since people do not exist outside the world, outside reality, the movement must begin with the man-world relationship” (page 66). He is trying to explain to understand others, people must first experience the world in a certain way by exercising their creativity because “Only through communication can human life have meaning” (page 58). It is trying to enable a supportive way that both teachers and students need to recreate an understanding to continue a relationship and establish knowledge. However, it is difficult to create something like this because no one may be open to the idea of allowing students to go it alone. He states: «No one can be authentically human as long as he prevents others from being so» (p. 66). With this quote he brings to light the truth that oppressors use what they think is morally correct in society to maintain its status quo because it benefits them. Just as, in a way, my art school wants to take advantage of college students who take useless classes, even if they don't help them with their work.
