Topic > Is art an artistic business? - 1202

Being in the art world is something I have always planned to pursue career-wise. Ever since I was in elementary school it was something I was passionate about. I have memories of being so excited to scribble in crayons and paint with cheap Crayola watercolors. It is normal for young children to take part in this activity. But soon after this phase, interest in art deteriorated and became irrelevant for some teenagers. However, personally, I kept practicing until the moment came when I realized that art was what I wanted to do, for my career, my free time and my life. Not only is the artistic branch of graphic design socially beneficial and includes exposure to diversity, it is always fresh, new and creative, but it is also one of the few things that makes me feel content. In many animation works, a lot of people and consumers are unaware of how much research and travel is included. When a company creates a visual representation of a story they can't physically film, especially with films set in the past and in foreign countries, hours of intense research and examination take place. In Disney's 2014 Oscar-winning film Big Hero 6, technical supervisor Hank Driskill says his team took thousands and thousands of photos of landscapes, people, and architecture (Mufson). “We are great researchers here, we really like doing our homework” (Driskall). Driskall states about the fictional city of San Fransokyo from the film. The team also did extensive research into soft robotics, as one of the main characters is a robot. To animate this film, co-director Don Hall visited Carnegie Mellon University's Robotics Institute and collaborated with several professors to bring the character to life. The idea of taking modern technology and creating a story with my imagination and my hands is what I want to do. It's collaborative; I could explore different cultures and travel the world to do research and turn it into an art form. I would have experience with people, I would learn, I would design everything and I would get paid a lot of money. I would never get bored, every day would be something different and getting feedback from such a diverse audience would improve my skills. All of this is the source of my passion and, as Keane said, it makes me feel like a child. It would be difficult sometimes, but it's a business where you have to push yourself, and I wouldn't want to be bitter about that. I plan to go to an art and animation school and study people, movement, life and the world. It's an idea that excites me and I can't wait to see what this career has in store for me.
