This allows the reader to actively read. Active reading allows the reader to produce conversations with the author and ask questions like, what did the author really mean when he wrote this. Adler also says that if you're not reading just to pass the time, then you're actively reading. When you are actively reading you should be able to mark in your book to remember and decipher what you are reading. The purpose of active reading is to allow the reader to become one with the book. Adler then goes on to say that writing is very important. Writing within a book allows the reader to remember what they read faster and helps them ask good questions. Writing in a book is also helpful, because if you decide to stop reading for a while, you can go back to reading later. Then it will be like picking up where you left off
