Is globalization a benign or harmful process? 18461085International Relations 122Clunies-Ross KotoGlobalization and how politics changes. There are many ways to analyze globalization. In this essay I will try to analyze globalization by examining economic factors and impacts on international and domestic politics, as well as communication. I will examine how globalization has affected the modern world and how some people disagree with globalization. (Dwain, 2012) Dwain states that globalization connects us around the world. Aspects of globalization are that we “connect” our economy as well as products, culture, trade and population together. It is believed that globalization can boost the global economy, share financial interests, increase travel and communication, and create a free trade market. Some historians believe that globalization began in 1492 while many believe that it began earlier. Grant Richard, 1999) The reason why economic factors are taken into consideration is because money and trade have a great influence in politics as well as in the economic market which alters political decisions. Joseph Stiglitz, an economist, believes that globalization does not reduce inequality but rather promotes it. Some nations such as South Africa and the Caribbean have been forced into free markets by larger economies that need poorer nations to produce primary and secondary products. while America produces tertiary products that increase their economic profit much more than poorer nations. ‐(C Barnes, 2010) Poorer nations do this to get their share of loans from the International Monetary Fund which (International Monetary Fund, 1945) (Simon Jeffery, 2002). The poorest nations take on the most... half of the paper... they get richer and the poor get poorer along with many other reasons, including damage to the environment and cultural diversity. It's clear that people are more connected, and lots of research shows that people who work in sweatshops actually live longer and earn more money than they would have before that job. From where we stand in time, globalization has been very good as it has lifted many people out of poverty and connected our economies. The benefits outweigh the costs. The effects of globalization are evident as many items in your home are not made in your region. Globalization has lowered many costs of living and made the world smaller. Globalization has caused resources to be depleted faster, but even in a world without globalization there is no other model of resource consumption. Globalization is a good thing and has benefited many, some more than others.
