When Nestor arrives to smooth the dense atmosphere, the two part ways. Upon returning to his ship, Agamemnon sends his men to "go to Achilles' lodge [and] take Briseis immediately" (line 378) illustrating how rude he can be. Taking someone right away has an impatient connotation. Agamemnon has no intention of maintaining peace with Achilles because he rudely disobeyed Achilles' orders. Achilles tried to obey Agamemnon, but he refused. Regardless, Agamemnon resorted to his threat. When the men reach Achilles' hut, he is grieved and allows his wife to be taken. She is sad and reluctant, but lets them take her back to Agamemnon. No matter what he does, this event was inevitable. Agamemnon was provoking him by making him “fiery…[to] [react] quickly” (line 341) showing that Achilles can be easily angered. Agamemnon tries to use Achilles' anger and fury to convince him to surrender and retreat to the army he left behind. Even though Achilles felt anger and pain, he keeps his word. He wants to obey Athena's orders not to react. Although he is sad, he will not let Agamemnon's threat reach his
