An important issue in the study of communication is learning how individuals can initiate conversations or how people can address each other in a given language (Aliakbari & Toni, 2008). Oyetade (1995) defines terms of address as words or expressions used in interactive and face-to-face situations to designate the person being spoken to. Terms of address in different linguistic communities are worthy of study, terms of address appear to be influenced by culture (Fitch, 1991; Morford, 1997). Zhang (2011) argues that “Culture and language are closely linked. Language is the bearer of culture, culture is reflected through language. Language is the presentation of culture Language is culturally charged; culture has a strong influence on language, in particular on its social function and pragmatics in communication” (p. 54). Therefore, address forms are an essential part of people's language. One form of address terms are kinship address terms. Kinship terms describe how people in various parts of the world refer to brothers, sisters, uncles, aunts, cousins, and so on (Wardhaugh, 2006). Considering that Persian is the official language of the country of Iran, it is observed that even in the Kurdish dialect the application of Persian kinship terms is increasing and they are replacing the Kurdish ones. This issue was sufficiently motivating to investigate the use of the Kurdish/Persian kinship term in the Kurdish community. The reason for examining kinship terms is that the researcher, as a native speaker of the Sorani dialect, realized that the use of kinship terms in my community is not satisfactory. To date, sociolinguistic research conducted on the influence of non-linguistic factors is limited. on various kinship terms used in Sorani......middle of paper......having different levels of education. they will be divided into three groups based on their age, gender and education level based on the personal information that will be collected in the first part of the questionnaire. The data for this study is collected using a questionnaire developed by one of the MA students of Ilam University. The researcher used Cronbach's α method to make the questionnaire reliable. The acceptable rate of reliability of a questioner is above 70%. It will be changed. The questionnaire consists of two parts. In the first part, participants will be asked to answer some questions about their personal data regarding age, education and gender. The second part includes 15 questions that participants have to read and imagine themselves in those situations and choose the forms of address relatives usually use to address each other.
