Daoism and Confucian views were important to the development and education of human beings. The existence of Confucians and Taoists in East Asian countries helped explain their theories. Both authors have differences and similarities in their views on self-cultivation and self-knowledge. Self-knowledge is when a person is aware of their abilities, limitations, and feelings. Basically just learning about yourself, how you might react or handle different situations, and how you feel about things. Self-cultivation is what a person wants to improve or educate himself. And there was art and nature that played an important role in their theories. They were said to have helped shape humanity as we know it. Although Confucian and Taoist views differ in the concept of self-knowledge and agree in focusing on self-culture, they still recognize that nature and art are important to their theories. Self-cultivation is necessary. Both of their teachings agree that people are responsible. for their personal life, individual development and self-improvement. Daoism and Confucianism are similar because they both focus on self-cultivation. As long as a person is self-cultivated, he is capable of improving or educating himself. In Confucius, "Leaving virtue without proper cultivation; not discussing thoroughly what one has learned; not being able to move toward the righteousness of which one gains a knowledge; and not being able to change what is not good : - these are the things that drive me concern” (Confucius), a person improves himself and is satisfied throughout his existence on earth, a person achieves self-cultivation through nature ...es the will” (Mencius), it is said that self-knowledge is the praise of one's nature, and that nature is what is known and is what leads to self-cultivation and self-knowledge. Through the means of art, the ideas of a person who knows himself are expressed. Confucianism and Daoism seem to be completely opposite, but there are some similarities between the two. Both Daoist and Confucius shared the idea of self-cultivation that leads a person to self-improvement. They differ in their ideas of self-knowledge; how one knows oneself. Having self-knowledge helps you channel that energy and focus your attention on those personal improvements. Knowing your flaws, strengths and weaknesses can help you make changes in your life that will lead to happiness. It is safe to say that Taoists and Confucius have similarities and differences.
