Topic > Effects of African American History - 2163

The destruction of African American history began in the nineteenth century when they were brought to America. The stripping and separation from what Africans were already accustomed to had been removed. Culture, identity, dignity, humanity, individualism, morality, values, hopes and dreams had been stolen from Africans at the hands of Europeans. For 250 years African humanity was disrupted by Europeans through slavery. A period of time where there is no history to develop or record other than slavery. Slavery temporarily took over African American history for a period of two centuries. The temporary and essentially harsh circumstances have had a long-term effect. Slavery destroyed the history of African Americans and created cognitions of life that followed long after slavery ended. Slavery limited African Americans from learning anything that would enhance their intellectual advancement to their advantage. Because of this restriction, a cultural disadvantage among African Americans continued to grow under oppression and slavery. Abraham Lincoln did the unthinkable and signed the Emancipation Proclamation outlawing slavery. This means that he freed the slaves. Lincoln gave the slaves the freedom that was what they had wanted and longed for; for so long. Over 250 years of forced labor, brutal physical, verbal and emotional abuse, African Americans took the first step towards becoming part of civilization. Africa had been one of the most beautiful and rich advanced places in the world. He was civilized, organized and had so much to offer others. Africa had many empires that were growing in strength. Africa was a rich place in many areas and had partnerships with many. Africa and Europe had developed diplomacy... amidst paper... and indifference. Today their values as a people have moved far away from what their African American ancestors went through to get them to where they are today. Their values are not morals that can be applied to life, their values are based on materialistic elements, meaningless music and gang violence. Today, African Americans have created different communities that represent different cultural aspects that have negatively influenced their character and the way they present themselves. African Americans are still searching for their freedom, they are still fighting racism and inequality. Not all African Americans were able to recover or create a new mindset about life. For African Americans, slavery temporarily took over history for over two hundred centuries. Because of this temporary and harsh horror, African Americans had to recreate themselves as a people.
