Meister Eckhart's sermons open the path to God through practice. The heart sutra emphasizes the control of the senses to reach God and (Meister Eckhart says that a righteous person lives in God and God lives in him or her). Every work done for righteousness brings joy to God. Likewise, the Heart sutra speaks of the perfection of wisdom. The Heart sutra teaches that attainment is a form of enlightenment and states practices for not being overwhelmed by the senses or skandhas so that one can find enlightenment. Meister Eckhart also says that when a person is free from ego attachment and remains free and empty in the present moment by the precious will of God, then he will be a virgin just as certainly as he was before he existed. Both teachings tell us to be free from characteristics. Eckhart's philosophy emphasized the divinity of man. It often referred to the spiritual connection between the soul of man and God. Eckhart taught the importance of stilling the mind to be receptive to the presence of God. While the Heart Sutra is based on the most profound teachings of the Buddha. The Heart Sutra is about the practice of achieving a peaceful state. The first lines of the sutra deal with the five skandhas: form, sensation, perception, memory, and consciousness.
