To say there has ever been a cookie-cutter ideal for an American family is to ignore the struggles of many different groups and subcultures in America. America is a land of immigrants and is home to a wealth of diversity, each with their own perceptions and opinions on family culture. The U.S. Census Bureau describes a household as “a group of two or more persons (one of whom is the head of the household) related by birth, marriage, or adoption and residing together.” This definition encompasses numerous forms of family structures that have existed in America for many years and will continue to exist. However, the difference now is that America has become increasingly progressive and inclusive of all people, such as LGBT and racial minorities, as highlighted in U.S. Census reports on the growth of minority-owned homes. America is continually expanding to welcome new and different
