Both genres demonstrated rhythmic syncopation in their music and both demonstrated improvisation. Blues improvised in the singer's sense and ragtime did not improvise and composed its own music by accentuating certain notes. Previously we saw the main difference between ragtime and blues because blues is known to completely miss a strong or weak note, while ragtime is known to accent halfway between notes. This main difference made ragtime have the feel of uplifting swing compared to sad blues
