Oedipus Rex qualifies as a “perfect” tragedy. However, Aristotle's definition of tragedy is somewhat short-sighted. “Tragedy, therefore, is a process of imitation of an action that has serious implications, is complete, and possesses grandeur; by means of a language made sensually attractive..." (AS.OT). When one wonders about a tragedy one thinks of the Horrible Devastation, mass death and many sad things, when in theory, overall a tragedy can be summed up as it is, an aristocrat with excessive pride, and this makes them have a tragic ruin and causes the audience to quickly change emotions.
