Guns have existed for many centuries. Why should gun control advocates now enact stricter laws to allow people to own a gun? A quote from Luke Scott reads: “Crime is actually lower in places where people own firearms. Washington, D.C., is a case in point. It has the strictest gun laws, but who has the highest crime rate in the country? Washington, DC." Many people argue that creating stricter gun laws would help reduce crime and robberies. But people use guns in self-defense against these types of crimes. If gun control laws were enforced, the Second Amendment would be violated. Additionally, purchasing firearms will be less accessible to law-abiding citizens. The crime rate will not decrease if stricter gun laws are enacted. Because guns have the ability to cause crime and violence, few people appreciate them. People see firearms as tools of criminal activity. They say that if people buy more firearms, there is a greater likelihood that people will commit crimes such as theft, murder and misuse. Many confirm that guns have been the killing tool in most crimes in our country and around the world. Firearms are involved in most criminal situations. This is why people say firearms should be heavily enforced and mostly avoided if possible. Some also say that guns are used primarily to harm or injure other people, but most Americans view guns as safety tools for their families. Taking it away would leave a family susceptible to a burglary. Some argue that if expensive weapons were produced, the violence would stop and the crime rate would decrease. However, expensive weapons will do little to help keep Americans safe. Rather, criminals will easily be able to obtain weapons illegally, and innocent civilians will be… middle of the paper… business too. If guns were imposed or banned it would be the same thing, and profits would skyrocket for gangs and other criminals. Instead of trying to enforce gun control laws, the government should work with the police and educate people on how to use guns properly and always call the police for help. Never try to handle a situation alone if you know someone will get hurt. In conclusion, enforcing gun laws would not be the best solution to reducing violence in the United States. Educating people and telling them to always contact the police if they can't handle a situation is always the best option. Guns provide protection and can save a family from a home invasion or protect a late-night store owner from thieves who might threaten him for money. Not only are firearms protected by the Constitution, but they are also part of American tradition.
