First week activities should focus on the whole group and not on a small group. Specific activities for the first week of school should include a discussion of classroom rules, procedures, and routines. Personally, my first week activities involve modeling the use of the behavior management system in the classroom. As students become familiar with the rules and procedures and demonstrate understanding through practice, I use the Class Dojo system. When students meet expectations during the first few days of school (or fail to meet expectations), they are immediately awarded DOJO points. As students earn points in increments of 10, they are immediately openly rewarded with the chance to visit the treasure chest.
