People who have been smoking for years often don't quit, but continue the habit until they die of natural causes or something caused by the tobacco they have used for years. Children see family members smoking, they don't need to see advertising, and they often think that smoking makes them become adults. However it has truly been a revelation since we arrived in Egypt. Here you can walk down the street and see kids smoking, and it looks like they've been doing it for years. I don't think these guys were impressed by any kind of publicity. No, they've actually watched their mother, father, brother, sister, and everyone else smoke for years, so they've picked up the habit. This is why banning advertising will never make a big difference in the number of smokers in the world. The fact of the matter is that no matter how much the government tries to control advertising, as long as the product is still legal for people to buy it, it will.
