Can you believe your door handle was designed by an architect? At first I didn't think so, at first I thought the architects gave a basic layout and design to a contractor and a group of engineers to take and develop into the masterpieces we see all over the world. In fact, in the first year I wasn't entirely wrong, this is what an architect does. However, contractors and engineers send constant feedback to the architects' design team allowing them to constantly move forward. They take a basic sketch and model of a building to graphically represent all the structural and mechanical parts of a building. Bronson Gaff, lead designer at Ankrom Moisan Architects in Portland, OR, said, “To be a successful architect you have to be a great listener, communicator, and a true teammate.” Steve Polonia (2013) stated that "architecture firms were not created just to make more money and consolidate architects, but to create teams of specialists to complete projects with different perspectives." Architects help create the society around you, they design and participate in the creation of every type of building you see. From the school and church down the street to the house you live in, an architect has played a role in designing and placing elements where they need to function properly in the given space. So why does architecture interest me? From a young age I found myself spending countless hours designing floor plans and small house models. At first I thought it was just fun, then I discovered that I could make a career designing houses for people. Growing up I always had a safe, decent, warm and loving home. I saw how important homeownership was growing up and I want to be able to participate in designing the perfect homes for families. I'm not big... middle of paper... the faucets and flora designs really amazed me. Conclusion During this project I went from being totally ignorant to being able to stay true to my initial belief that I would be a great architect and create a life dedicated to work that I could enjoy. I believe I need to do something I love and after spending time at Ankrom Moisan I discovered that I love what they do; even the boring parts were an absolutely wonderful reward knowing that one day I could drive by a finished project and say, “I was part of the reason why this is before us today.” I am looking forward to starting my education at CCC, transferring to UI, and completing a five-year professional degree. I had so much fun as I progressed through this project. I was extremely grateful to end my learning experience on a high note at the Ankrom Moisan architecture firm in downtown Portland, Oregon..
