LITERATURE REVIEW: INTRODUCTION: Subcontractors play a very important role in the construction process and their work is often underestimated. It is a very common observation that owners hire professionals such as architects, engineers, construction managers and general contractors. But the actual work is mostly done by subcontractors. The subcontractor performs the work according to plans and specifications provided by design professionals employed by the owner. For example, an electrical trade subcontractor is typically provided with a set of electrical plans and technical specifications designed by an electrical engineer and reviewed by the project architect. (Subcontracting and Subcontracting 2014). Many construction companies adopt the subcontracting process to increase their efficiency in the construction process (Ohnuma 2000). Subcontractors should participate in safety training programs organized by general contractors to address safety issues before work begins. Subcontractors must follow the general contractor's safety guidelines and implement their own safety policies as well. Additionally, subcontractors are responsible for establishing effective communication between themselves and the general contractor and other subcontractors.
