Beowulf particularly matched this theme and his vast courage in these sentences: "I have also heard that this evil beast cares not for weapons, so I too will despise.. " (434-435) “I will grapple with the demon and fight for my life, enemy against enemy. Let him put his faith in the judgment of the Lord, which death takes!”439-441 Although Beowulf has a good chance of falling into the hands of the powerful demon, he chooses to be brave and righteous by not using weapons. In this way he is making the fight even. Beowulf is placing his wyrd in the hands of the Lord, meaning that whatever event happened would have to happen. Beowulf ends up defeating the odds and surpassing the terrifying Grendel. The force of thirty men helped Beowulf tear off Grendel's arm, and Grendel was later found to have bled to death in his layer. Keeping his promise, Beowulf uses nothing but his hands and his strength. Without a doubt a very courageous act. Beowulf liberates a kingdom to which he does not belong, but he feels it is his duty because he is a loyal man. We do not know whether the hands of the Lord had anything to do with the success of this heroic act, but we certainly know that Beowulf's heroic attributes did. Beowulf is definitely a hero too
