The ethical issue I would like to talk about is the problems people are having with the home genetic test called 23andMe. The Google-owned company has recently come under fire for failing to comply with FDA regulations for Class III medical devices. However, that's not where ethical issues come into play, it just sparked interest in the company. Once 23andMe was in the news due to their issue with the FDA, people like me decided to find out what it was all about and were surprised to see real problems with their services. The first ethical issue I would like to explain is how information can be misleading to someone who is not so well informed with the statistics and information they tell you about yourself. For example, the article talks about a man from Berlin who purchased the home test and when he received the results he said he would probably die of a heart attack or stroke in his later years and he was fine with it.
