There is probably no person living in the United States who doesn't know Meryl Streep, no matter what age. With a vast and impressive amount of characters played throughout her life, Meryl Streep has never failed to capture the character, winning her audience over to any film in seconds. Through her talent for adapting to any role, mastering accents and her own style, Meryl Streep shows herself to this day as the true American talent of her time. Early in her life, Meryl Streep had a first-hand experience when she came to the stage in the early parts of her life, which helped transcend her into the actress she is known today. At age 12, Streep enrolled in singing lessons which helped her become interested in music as a high school student ("Streep"). A student at Bernardsville High School in New Summit, New Jersey, she maintained active roles in plays and musicals throughout high school, Streep never considered acting more than just an interest. After high school, the actress attended an all-girls college, where she played parts in their plays such as Streecar Named Desire and Miss Juliet at Vasaar. Soon after, and on a three-year scholarship, she attended Yale Drama School, where she later realized how passionate she truly was about acting ("Zrimsek"). As a starting point for her career, Streep played a role in a play called 27 Wagons Full of Cotton at the Phoenix Theater which earned her the first Tony Award and Drama Disk ("Zrimsek"). Already exposed to the public eye thanks to her talent in plays, Streep landed a role in an early television series in 1977 called The Deadliest Season and in 1978 she won an Emmy for The Holocaust after gaining attention from a previous role in a film, entitled Giulia.
