The links between social and ecological systems have been greatly underestimated in the past. Many environmental scientists and managers involved in various social-ecological systems (SES) are now starting to call for innovative institutional models that incorporate governance methods that enable adaptation in response to ecological factors (Maclean, K. et al. 2013) . . This is considered both locally and globally. Some believe that by accepting that social beliefs, values and decision rules are influenced by environmental changes and therefore adapt in response to the environment, we can improve understanding of aspects such as transitions in land use, the study of sustainability, natural resource management and environmental change on a local and global scale (Meyfroidt 2013). Until recent years there has been very little attention to the dominance of small-scale land managers' environmental perceptions, knowledge, evaluation and judgments in their reactions to environmental changes and fluctuations. The results of various studies conducted on this topic appear to support the idea that by recognizing the "adaptive dance" that occurs between social and ecological systems we will be able to better manage environmental issues. The effect of natural (ecological) systems on societyPerceptions of human beings are highly variable and factors such as beliefs, functions and values are continually reconsidered by these human agents while surrounding factors such as the environment are changing (Meyfroidt 2013). In studies conducted by Bamberg (2003) it was found that people's level of concern for the environment directly influences people's opinions, and understanding cognition is a specific circle...... half of the paper .... ...re two aspects that are not always included in adaptive governance. These are issues of social inequality and legitimacy, and should be incorporated into the design of adaptive management strategies (Cote and Nightingale 2000). Adaptive management appears to have proven to be an efficient way of addressing challenges in social-ecological systems. The few issues surrounding this type of governance are insignificant compared to the benefits of these strategies. It can certainly be seen that it is essential to recognize the fact that social systems are connected to ecological systems and that both depend on and influence each other. By embracing the idea of social-ecological systems and the adaptation of each aspect in response to changes in the other, we should be able to better address and manage the environmental challenges we face..
