Every person is different from the other. I think the idea that man is both hypocritical and contradictory is a true concept. In general, all people, regardless of their composition, have contrasting characteristics. These negative attributes exist in everyone. No person is immune to the positive and negative traits that life presents, be they physical or psychological. That said, I believe that no person is immune to either trait, especially when it comes to behaviors. In my opinion, the struggle between nature and nurture plays an important role in an individual's life and can alter the direction of a person's life depending on the influence from external sources such as family and society. I truly believe my view fits best with a behavioral perspective of human nature. The comparison is that with a behavioral perspective such as social learning theory, all individuals are thought to be influenced by the environmental stimuli to which they are exposed. Within behavioral theory there are models of development that reflect a particular set of environmental stimuli, and development is the result of continued exposure to specific factors in the environment. What key factors explain changes in behavior? I believe that when discussing any factor that goes into changing behavior we must first find a theory that we are drawn to and feel fully confident about. That said, in my opinion, Robert Akers' social learning theory explains what I would implement when creating my own counseling theory. Akers' social learning theory states that an individual's behavior and differential definitions or association are also reflected in the social learning process. Factors for changing behavior…half of the paper…becoming productive citizens. One population that would not benefit from this type of therapy is those seeking family and marriage counseling. The reason is that when couples families seek counseling for their marriage or family problems, the counseling method focuses on the overall aspect of each family member. This is done by organizing couple or family sessions focused on improving the family environment or personal relationships. According to Corey (2009) the main purpose of family therapy is to ensure that the family is able to communicate with each other and help each other during situations that may arise in the home and family. The basis of this theory is to help treat problems by changing the way the family functions rather than trying to fix a specific member. However, my theory focuses on harmful and self-destructive individual behaviors.
