For example: Ellie saw a food fight on the train where a son beat his father to death. These sons sacrifice their fathers; at that point the only thing that mattered was saving one's life, people only cared about themselves. His father was growing old and weak, and Elie realizes that his father does not have the strength to survive on his own and it is too late to save him. "It's too late to save your old father, I said to myself..." (105). Ellie would never seriously consider killing her father; he depends on his father for support and many other things. Ellie said her father's presence was the only thing that stopped me from allowing myself to die. The relationship between Ellie and her father shows that Ellie not only cares about herself, but also about the people around him. Ellie was brave by not leaving her father behind and listening to her conscience. Ellie has become a successful adult after being liberated from the concentration camp. “I have not lost faith in God. Throughout the book Ellie was angry at God because she was confused as to why God was allowing all of this to happen, why he didn't stop it.
