Travis Hirschi presented a social bond theory in 1969. The main idea of ​​social bond theory is that each individual has an impulse to act in selfish and even aggressive ways that could lead to criminal behavior. Social bond theory has some similarities to Durkheim's theory that “we are all animals, and therefore naturally capable of committing criminal acts” (Tibbetts, 2012, p. 162). However, the more a person is connected to conventional society, for example to family, school, community, the less inclined he is to be involved in criminal activities.
