Every person has their own type of learning style. A learning style is a method each of us uses to better understand material. A preferred learning style is a style in which the person can learn best, reflecting the individual's strengths and weaknesses. To understand matter we absorb it all with our senses, through sight, hearing, touch, smell or taste. The theory of Multiple Intelligences claims that there are at least seven learning styles ("intelligences"): interpersonal, intrapersonal, bodily/kinesthetic, visual/spatial, mathematical/logical, verbal/linguistic and musical/rhythmic (Lazear, D.1991). For the purposes of this article I will simplify the seven categories into three main categories in which people learn information best: auditory, visual, and tactile/kinesthetic. Most people have the ability to use all three learning styles, but learn best using a specific learning style. Auditory learners are people who learn most effectively by listening to speeches or lectures. Approximately 30% of the population are auditory learners (Jacob, S. and Cole, S. 2005). Auditory learners need to have sound in the background to learn best. Auditory learners depend on hearing and speaking as their primary mode of learning. They will use phrases like “something's starting to sound” and “that sounds like a good thing” to describe distinct memories. There are two types of auditory learners, auditory listeners and verbal processors. An auditory listener prefers to have things explained to him and will have difficulty with written instructions; where verbal processors must move their lips and repeat thoughts to understand instructions. It is important for auditory learning… half of the paper… you need to stretch periodically and take short breaks between study blocks, preferably at least once an hour. Another alternative is to chew gum. Research has shown that chewing gum can improve memory by up to 35% (Conner, M. 2004). Choose the best environment that will have a positive impact on your concentration level so that you can do your best and retain as much information as possible. Above I have listed the three main categories of learning styles. Learning styles vary from individual to individual and can change depending on the situation. By understanding and understanding each style you will be able to understand your weaknesses and strengthen them. It is also important to understand that not everyone has the same style and be able to adapt to help another person better understand what you are presenting to them..
