Although Charlotte and Wilbur are very different, they become friends in this charming story. Along with Fern, a little girl, and the main character, they all work together to keep Wilbur away from the frying pan. This is a lovely story that, even more than 20 years later, warms my heart to think about. Island of the Blue Dolphins by Scott O'Dell On an island with only her little brother, Karana survives by using the skills she learned from her elders. While this story could be called sad, it is a beautiful and heartbreaking story of hope and a young girl's journey to becoming a woman on her own. He taught me that I could fight for what I wanted if I was brave. These books already have a legacy left by the children who loved them long ago. Let's not allow this legacy to happen
