My assessment of the leadership process After the participants were informed about the rules of the game, I decided to give them two minutes to discuss how they would play. This is necessary because it allows for greater communication between participants in order to achieve the goal of our program: improving participants' communication skills. Immediately after finishing the discussion, I tried "front loading". I asked them what qualities and requirements are vital for the game. There were answers such as cooperation and communication. Then I tried to further elaborate each answer, then I said: Cooperation is necessary because this task cannot be accomplished by one individual. We have to work as a team. Furthermore, communication is important as every individual has his own blind spots and hence we should remind our batch mates from time to time to successfully transfer the toxic chemicals. After all, we started the game. The participants worked very hard but unfortunately they failed because they did not tighten the ropes and the buckets fell. I asked them if they wanted any advice. They refused and began the second trial. This time the participants did much better, but once again the bucket fell and the water spilled. Once again I asked them if they needed my help but they insisted on working alone. Then the participants began their third trial. This time they pulled the ropes and very carefully carried the small bucket into the large bucket. Finally they managed to pour the water into the big bucket but at the same time the small bucket fell into the big bucket! This situation was quite embarrassing because according to what we said before the bucket should not...... middle of paper ...... the participants are all my friends. It was like we were all working together as a team. I think highlighting the main points of front loading will be helpful for participants so they can understand more easily. Dr. Chan: Good front loading. However, sometimes, when participants are not listening to you, you should interfere and try to get their attention. You might think of some ways to get their attention. My Response: Thank you Dr. Chan. In fact, that's exactly why I felt sad after the demonstration: sometimes I can't get their attention during the game! Before the event I thought that leading a group or a people was easy and I am very confident that I will succeed. However, after the demonstration, I realized that leading a group of people is not that simple. Maybe next time I can confiscate the props so as to attract the participants' attention.
