With the advent of maritime exploration, the West changed in economic, political, and cultural influence. The Iberians were mainly kingdoms of Portugal and Spain. These people became richer through trade, the richer you were the more power you had to change the political atmosphere and as they traveled they encountered other cultures. The food they ate and the materials other cultures used to make things were very interesting. When the West began to explore the Islamic world it posed a threat, so they wanted to find other ways to trade with the East. The motivations for the exploration were to expand Christianity, which was Catholicism, they wanted to convert people into other cultures in different parts of the world. The trade was also a motivation to look for new routes to the Indian Ocean towards the east to continue the trade, which was a very profitable business. They also wanted to provide a launch point into East Africa for trading points. The Portuguese will threaten a city with invasion unless the local authorities are willing to submit to Portuguese authority. Curiosity also played a role: they wanted to know more about what's out there, about the geography of the world. They wanted to know more about what other cultures did, how they lived, and the foods they ate. They sought wealth because merchants thought trade would make them richer. So by exploring other lands they might find something that could make them rich. Glory was also a motivator because the idea of a young man going into the unknown to conquer a new place made them more ambitious. This new venture led to mixed cultures, riches: gold, silver, different types of food, working with different materials, conflicts with traders, slavery,... half the paper... The Mughal Empire tolerated the different types of religions, but the Ottoman Empire did not. (h) The Ottoman Empire was more powerful in the early modern period than any other European or Islamic power due to the newfound Osman, its position on the Dardanelles and also the army. This empire was all about conquest and control and they had a special desire to subjugate the Christians. In the Ottoman Empire if you were a corrupt official you could be killed, they had zero tolerance for corruption. There was a public declaration of laws and taxes to prevent fraudulent laws. They had infantrymen, archers and calvary soldiers. The cultural branch ensured that there were Islamic endowments to support schools, hospitals and education for Muslim youth. There are taxes imposed on people to keep the economy going. Works cited (Bulliet, et. al,
