Cell phones have become very important to us in our society, but now it seems like they are starting to take over our lives. Cell phones have made it easy for us to connect with our friends and family, who may live far from us, no matter where we are. They have also helped us find our way back to somewhere whenever we feel like we are lost along the way, help us remember whose birthday it is or if there is something we need to do, and have also been a good source of entertainment when we are bored and there is no TV around or if there are no games to play. But too much of a good thing can be bad, since you can do almost anything with a cell phone, people are starting to become addicted to their phones and this makes them lose focus on what's important. Every time I walk into my classroom I think I always notice my classmates on their phones and even when the instructor comes and starts teaching the lesson they continue to be on their phones, sometimes listening and then go back to texting the person they were texting or they completely ignore the instructor and just stay on their phones, texting or checking their social media. In one study, 88 college students answered questions about cell phone use while in class and studying. (“College students…Effects on their learning.”) They found that students had trouble paying attention in class and had trouble remembering what they were studying when using their phones. They also noticed that when they used their phones in class, students' grades began to drop. ("College students... Effects on their learning.")
