Being an officer of the law is one of the greatest responsibilities a person can take on. A step up from this he is a member of a Special Weapons and Tactics team, the ultimate response unit. Being one of the few chosen for this elite team is a privilege that the faint of heart simply cannot bear. Only the most noble and hard-working people would dream of walking side by side with SWAT. One day I hope to join them. Becoming an officer in the police force has always been my dream. The thought of being a person that others admire and respect is a powerful feeling. Now, I don't think that one day I could just walk into a station and ask to become a member of SWAT, I realize that there are many steps I would have to take to achieve this goal. First of all, I should achieve university learning. The locations I visited for this training include the ITT Technical Institute and the Summer College. Both are located in the Portland area. Assuming I can complete a college program, I should become a patrol officer for a minimum of 5 years, gaining as much experience as possible to be eligible for SWAT. Once I reach my five year minimum, I should be handpicked by the SWAT Captain. Despite this, I may make a request or suggestion stating that I believe they are capable of carrying out the required tasks. The Captain will review the application and decide whether or not I meet his requirements. The requirements to become a member of a SWAT team are quite high. For example, a person must first pass a physical strength test, a psychological test, and a firearms testing course. The aptitude test, some would say, is one of the most challenging assessments a candidate must endure. These tests... middle of paper... I sincerely wanted to pursue, that is, be a member of the law. Through countless hours of hard work, dedication and commitment, I will get there. I understand that it will be very difficult, but I am willing to accept the challenge to make my dream come true. Since I'm still a minor, I can't really understand what real police work would be like. So, to prepare for my senior project, I plan to spend a minimum of 20 hours of job shadowing with an active police officer. This will involve traveling with him/her in their patrol vehicle. Depending on how "exciting" things get, I may have the opportunity to experiment with things like stopping other vehicles, arrests, and even arresting an inmate. Being able to see it in person and have hands-on experience, would give me a fantastic idea of what it would be like to be an officer of the law.
