Focusing on my media consumption over the past few weeks I have learned that my media consumption is primarily focused on social media. According to my media log, the two social media that appear the most in my media log are Facebook and YouTube. Other media consumption I have been exposed to are online news articles, children's television programs that I watch with my baby. I work part-time in a supermarket and this is where I am most exposed to advertising as I have almost no time to watch TV programs or reality shows. Reading the post on the discussion forum I realize that there are many of my colleagues in some graduates use social sites, watch reality shows and all use the media to do research for their university work. The media consumption patterns in our group are that many use social media, many of us do not watch television or news, most only watch reality TV and get the latest news on social sites, and almost no one listens to the radio. Over the course of these five weeks of this unit I could see in other students' posts that social media is widely used and differs from television and newspapers in a way that it gives the public the ability to comment on issues and not just listen to them and reading them but participating in groups and discussing, that's what makes it more interesting. Hegemony is what the most... middle of paper... best cosmetics and most desired tech items do. The powerful use this vision to advertise their products and that's how it all comes together. To change the influence of the media we must change our media consumption. I personally didn't realize how exposed I was to the media until I had to keep a record of it. Considering that my media consumption is mostly tied to Facebook and YouTube, I feel like this makes me somewhat oblivious to the world around me. I think this because I am only exposed to news through what is posted and shared on social networking sites. This is something I should change about my media consumption. Across the discussion board posts there is a common view of the media that most of the media we are exposed to is simply useless information and according to many it is better if we try to avoid it rather than consume it .
