Should college be as expensive as it is now? I believe that college prices are fair because each individual student determines the price and what they are willing to pay for. College is big business, which means they have a lot of bills to pay and to keep the system running. There are many ways students can earn money to help reduce the cost of tuition. Third, there are other alternatives to paying for education more cheaply. Since the university is considered a big business, there are many different bills that they have to pay such as campus maintenance, activities, technology, and professors' salaries. Many prospective college students want to have a full college experience, like getting away from home, meeting new people, and getting out of their comfort zone. Therefore, many high school seniors apply to larger schools because they have a lot to offer. But many students often forget how their tuition will be paid. The average cost of public college tuition starts at around $23,000,000 (College Board). However, each university or college has different prices depending on how big the school is. For example, a smaller school like Union College will be less expensive than Duke University because it is a smaller campus and has a lower enrollment. Students who have a weighted GPA of at least 3.0 are likely to get more scholarships because it demonstrates consistency and dedication to their studies. Having a good GPA can also give students more options to choose from when looking for external scholarships because you will be eligible for them. “Better grades, higher test scores, and involvement in a variety of activities can help your child get more money for college” (Verywell). Therefore, how well you do… half of the paper… and how you learn best should tell whether it is worth spending money on online classes. Overall, the price that any single college program or institute has to offer is fair because what you pay for is what you get. As a student and as a person you must decide what is best for you and what you seek to gain from your education. The more the college has to offer, the higher the cost. But that doesn't mean they have a better quality education. Smaller universities have less to offer, but you can still get a good college experience and a good education. Applying for scholarships and grants can help reduce the cost of tuition. While performing in the classroom, being involved, and getting good test scores can also bring money to the table. Ultimately every student is in control of their education and how they get there.
