Sovereignty is a blessing from Almighty Allah to mankind; freedom in any case refers to humans or other creatures and maintains its greatness in all aspects. It has been amply proven from human history that human beings have always sought freedom, therefore, the concept does not present any dilemma as freedom is the fundamental right of everyone. The conflict between India and Pakistan, two nations united by history but divided by destiny, runs deep. Their rivalries for more than five decades have prevented both countries from realizing their full economic and geopolitical potential. Most of the well-known political scientists and leaders on both sides of the borders believe that the Kashmir issue is the root cause of this rivalry. Kashmir is a small region in northern India; a part of the state of Jammu and Kashmir, which is the northernmost state of India, nestled in the foothills of the Himalayas, the Kashmir region is of great strategic importance and beauty making it a highly prized possession. Kashmir was controlled by the Durrani Empire of Afghanistan during Mughal rule in India, later taken over by the Sikh Empire under Maharaja Ranjit Singh in the mid-19th century and further sold to Maharaja Gulab Singh by the British. Four state acquisitions over three centuries thus demonstrate how important the Kashmir Valley was to the leaders of the Indian subcontinent. The reason for this importance is the fact that in addition to the high snow-capped mountains, scenic spots, beautiful valleys, rivers with ice-cold water, attractive lakes and springs and evergreen fields, dense forests and beautiful spa resorts , which enhance its grandeur and are a source of great attraction for tourists, Kashmir also shares contiguous borders with...... middle of paper...... has resisted settling and the major powers of the world are silenced due to the economic benefits they could gain by supporting India. When the countries face dialogue, the resolution of the issue becomes another problem because it is quite clear that India will not give up Jammu and Kashmir with a fair consensus. There must be something else that both countries could agree on. One such solution was put forward by General Pervaiz Musharraf, the then president of Pakistan, to unite two regions of Kashmir, i.e. under the control of India and Pakistan, and make it a demilitarized zone where people are free to travel. This way the Kashmir issue will be resolved and the relations between both the countries will also prosper but it seems that this will not happen soon due to the strength of position of both the countries in not giving up the owned lands..
