Suicide and assisted suicide are often seen as the most logical choice when faced with these circumstances. As early as the 16th century, it was argued that terminally ill patients should be helped to end their lives by doctors who should not be held morally or legally responsible for the individual's care. The early 21st century has seen many bills supporting the use of euthanasia proposed in many Western legislatures with little to no success. The fact is that everyone will die, the only question left to be answered is when, how and under what conditions. Proponents of euthanasia argue that everyone should have the same degree of control in choosing the circumstances of their death as they have in choosing how they live” (Economist.com, 1997).
