I chose to interview the teacher in my hometown at Richard D. Crosby Elementary School. This K-3 grade building is brand new, it was built in 2010. It has 4 pods, one for each level and a large discovery center in each pod. The school is very colourful, each pod has a different colour, so the children find it easy to move from one area to another. I had my interview with Mrs. Doe, a special education teacher. His room has many learning materials and is set up to have several workstations for group activities. Mrs. Doe shares her students with other special education teachers and also has a classroom aide for special education. My research question is: How does a teacher's perspective on learning reflect educational psychology theories and concepts? Ms. Doe faces many challenges in her classroom, overcrowding, multicultural differences, learning disabilities, diverse students with low socioeconomic status, and English language learners. There are many challenges for Ms. Doe to face, but she has been teaching for 21 years and has a lot of experience. She started out as a regular classroom teacher, but switched to special education and performed so well that when she asked if she could return to the regular classroom environment, the superintendent begged her to stay in the special education department because of his success.“ According to Woolfolk (2013) pag. 62, there are at least three ways in which higher mental functions can be developed through cultural tools and transmitted from one individual to another: imitative learning (where one person tries to imitate another), instructed learning (where students internalize teacher's instructions and use these instructions to self-regulate) and collaborate learn...... middle of the paper ......or teach." In conclusion, Mrs. Doe demonstrated how she uses classroom management and mutual teaching as well as mutual learning group activities to allow children to learn from each other and become role models for each other which Vygotsky believed were important for learning Structure is important to her, but she is also able to keep it fun. She said “you joke, you laugh, you talk, you read and you do math.” But most of all, her passion keeps her motivated and her sense of self-efficacy is obvious to me and her students will see it too.“Woolfolk (2013) pg. 509 noted that some studies have found that ratings of teachers' enthusiasm for their subject matter correlate with improvements in student achievement (Keller, Neumann, & Fischer, 2012).” I believe that Ms. Doe's perspective on learning reflects concepts from educational psychology. These students are very fortunate to have a teacher as their teacher.
