Men are idealized and put on a pedestal. TV shows are known for their plot and attractive people who play a role. Women go crazy for an attractive actor who is in their favorite series. Shannon Ridgway talks about her concerns about television shows when she says, “There is also evidence studied over the past decade that suggests that muscular action heroes negatively affect the body image of boys” (Ridgway 9). Ridgway points out that even from a young age men are influenced by the media's perception of the man women are attracted to. That being said, when someone watches a television series they can see the actors chosen in the shows and how they have the ideal body and good looks personified by the media. Evidently, to get more viewers for the show, the casting crew will choose potential actors and actresses who are attractive and have qualities about them that make them desirable. Consequently, this gives the idea that every man needs to look like the ones on TV, but in reality not everyone likes him that way. With this in mind, beauty is altered from a characteristic that someone possesses to a standard determined by those displayed in people's daily lives.
