Technology has an important role to play both in our work/school life and in our daily personal life. Over the years, technology has developed and changed to meet the demands and needs of customers, but often the needs are surpassed by the desires of larger businesses. “Technology is a human activity and therefore humans drive its development” (O'Reilly 2014). These changes and major technological developments have had a huge impact on the ever-increasing world around us. The increasing levels of toxic and harmful gases in the world's atmosphere caused by the industrialization of many countries are a further catalyst for the causes of global warming. The increase and development of technology in the world of manufacturing has blossomed over the past fifteen years, and while this has had a great impact on local and global economies, the world and the earth have had to pay the price. With ever-changing sea levels and the ozone layer, people in everyday society have had to pay the prices and live with the destruction that these so-called world-leading countries have inflicted on the rest. Like everything, there are two sides to every story and in this case there are many positives to take from the growth and development of these technologies. Over the last ten years there has been a global construction boom and this has led to an increase in jobs directly involved in the construction itself but also in the development of the technology involved in the machines and tools used in construction. Technology has an important role to play in everyday life, even in the classroom. And just like in the outside world, these technologies have their pros and cons. The use of technology in... middle of paper... supports the functioning of everyday technologies and the understanding of how to use these technologies. As we have seen in lessons, through our case studies and Willie Smits' TED talks, that understanding the technology we use in everyday life has an important role in the development of further technologies and in the development of the worldwide exploitation of its resources like oil and timber and the effect this has on the surrounding environment, not only the environmental impact it has on the world but also the impact it has on the humans who live and work with these technologies. Integrating these technologies is a good step in terms of reducing our impact on the overall scheme of things, but it comes at a price. If used and implemented correctly, the use of these technologies will benefit not only us and the next generation, but many more generations to come.
