Freshman year of college was finally here and I was ready to experience life through the lens of an adult. As soon as I turned eighteen, I had it all figured out, my favorite school, my major, and my career. My plan was to graduate with a major in business administration and a double major in psychology and political science, with the hopes of becoming a lawyer. It never ceases to amaze me how each semester of college has taught me to expand my realm of knowledge and become more open to new experiences. After my first semester, I decided to major in business administration and psychology. As time passed, my second year allowed me to delve into many important courses, which probed a thirst for knowledge that needed to be quenched. At this point, I wanted to receive a deeper understanding of both academic disciplines, but it wasn't until my senior year that I realized my true purpose. While sitting in my Industrial/Organizational Psychology class, I had an epiphany that allowed me to explore my career options in this field and knew that my dream was to become an Industrial/Organizational Psychologist. As my senior year begins to quickly come to a close, I feel a myriad of emotions and the following quote from Dr. William Henry Cosby Jr. describes the current temper I am experiencing; “To be successful, your desire for success should be greater than your fear of failure.” I will achieve my career goals and am willing to learn from my failures to reach the highest level of success. The University of Maryland, Baltimore County is a perfect fit for my academic goals because this institution provides a major that fits my interests. My goals are to get… halfway through… becoming an industrial/organizational psychologist in a company and always continue the lifelong learning process. This way, I will not only conduct research within the company I work for, but after working for ten years, I would like to advance my career. This will involve becoming a professor in a PhD in industrial/organizational psychology. and master's program. I believe I have many characteristics and interests that would make me an excellent candidate for the University of Maryland, Baltimore County. I am a very introspective person; I think a lot about what I do and why I do it. I constantly evaluate myself and my progress in achieving goals. My deep interest in attending stems from your excellent faculty, your reputation and your research facilities, which are among the best in the country. I hope my dream comes true.
