Topic > Essay on Gender Stereotypes - 1064

When people are born, they are taught at an early age to be feminine or masculine. Society has instilled in an individual's brain the idea that they must live according to these certain gender stereotypes. Society has created stereotypes that have led the world to think that women are second to men in every aspect of life. Women have been taught to be weak towards men and to depend on them for social and economic happiness; meanwhile, men have been taught to be “macho” and take care of their families (Well, Kolk, & Arrindell, 2005). For individuals who dare to be different and choose to form their own identity, whether it is a man or a woman, they are marginalized and isolated from their community (Beller, Brattebø, Lavik, Reigstad & Bender, 2015). These particular stereotypes that society has imposed on people have been a huge burden on men and especially women because they are the ones who have been negatively taught to be the inferior individual, unlike men who are stereotyped as superior.
