The two religions that have stood out the most I would say are Hinduism and Buddhism. These two religions have existed for centuries. In Hinduism it means a way of life, traditionally followed by Indian descent. We learned in class that Hinduism is called “Sanatan Dharma which means External Religion. In India, most of the people who reside there are identified as Hindus. Predominantly, Hinduism is from the region of India. There are many names followed by Hinduism which to name a few are Sanatan Dharma which has been stated above, the Vedic religion, Agama Hindu Dharma to name a few of the many. (Dorma pg. 16) For humanity, Hinduism is one of the oldest religions, dating back to 2500 BC, which has been controversial. There are many ritual forms that are passed down and performed through Hinduism, for example like piercing the ears of children, rituals when the child is taken out of the house, even in the third month called Pusavana. The ritual of the fourth and fifth months of pregnancy called Simanatonayana is performed. There is a marriage ritual called Vivaha. (Dogma p. 26-29) In this religion important and interesting beliefs implemented are the following: Salvation, Reincarnation, Karma. (Dogma pag. 7-13) In Salvation our souls go through continuous suffering and will also be able to go out to change bodies. Next we enter reincarnation, we all have the Supreme Soul which can be relieved by changing clothes and going into another body, transformation. In Hinduism, fundamentally, doing a good deed is the right thing to do. We reincarnate and the soul does not die, it only passes depending on how good we were in the previous life. Hinduism requires meditation in the form of Yoga, offering for the temple. (Dogma Page 7-13) Moses...... middle of the sheet ......hs and death. (Floyd) Buddha believes that desire is the root cause of suffering, whereas in Hinduism desire is and an attachment that leads to bondage. Both emphasize nonviolence and compassion. You believe in the existence of Gods or deities on different planes. They likewise practice and perform mediation, bhavas or mental states, spiritual practice and concentrations. Finally, both originated in Indian soil. The founder of Buddhism was a Hindu who became Buddha. So for India Buddha was the best gift to humanity. (Floyd)ReferencesCoomaraswamy, Ananda.
