Years ago, society was full of hardworking, fit, and energetic people who worked diligently to improve civilization. But then society was infected by television. The virus slowly spread from person to person and began to take over the lives of everyone it encountered. Over the course of eight decades, the virus has come to dictate daily activities and transform a vibrant species into languid losers. Television has ultimately transformed society into a vegetable garden controlled by technological innovations that manipulate the order of our daily lives. Those who recognize the damage caused by technology declare that television is slowly replacing humanity's education and determination. Thanks to innovations like Google and the World Wide Web, students have access to millions of answers that require no effort to find. Just type a term into a search engine, ask Jeeves a question, or pay a stranger in a foreign country to write your history essay and your work is done for you - it's that easy. Americans no longer have to strive to become intelligent; technology does it for them. With distractions like television and cell phones, students no longer prioritize education over entertainment. They are brainwashed by technology to become lazy slobs who do the minimum to get ahead. In his 2011 State of the Union address, President Obama recognized the threat of American technology to education. He urged parents to make sure the TV is turned off and homework is done. The President persuaded parents to teach children the importance of hard work and discipline so that they can secure the benefits of future technological innovation. If society is consumed by the inventions of the present and future inventions... middle of paper... If technology dominates education and entertainment and has the ability to one day replace human life itself, where do we go from here to finish? draw a line? Where do we stand up and refuse to be controlled by something that has no emotions, no morals, and no restrictions? Society stays home and watches technology advance on a black magic box instead of going into the real world and finding out for themselves. Television, cell phones, eReaders and iPads have the power to brainwash society into a bunch of disengaged bodies that allow technology to run their lives for them. Technological advances can be extremely beneficial to industries such as medical care, engineering, and military developments. But they can also be harmful to society if humanity submits to hypnosis and allows television and other advances to turn its one-time work ethic into a cycle of inactivity..
